partnership with KMA kennel in Alaska
We're very pleased this morning to tell you that we've officially partnered with KMA Kennel! Based in Chistochina, Alaska, human population 50, dog population 80. KMA is home to 18 happy huskies and is owned and operated by Darrin Lee & Heidi Sutter. They have participated in the 2013 Yukon Quest (and just placed 3rd in the 300!) numerous Copper Basin 300s, Kobuk 440, Top of the World 350, Yukon-Innoko 200, Denali 300, Two Rivers 200, Gin Gin 200, The Sheep Mountain 150 and 300, Kusko 300 and the Taiga 300. Aside from their fine collection of Red Lanterns, they have placed as high as 2nd in the Two Rivers 200 and in the 2013 Sheep Mountain 300. They have received Sportsmanship Awards and Vet Awards as well as the 2013 Yukon Quest Challenge of the North. Their dogs are not only used to race, but are primarily used for work with a traditional homemade freight sled to haul wood. Having dogs is not a hobby for them, it is their way of life. Why are we partnering with them? We're strong supporters of the sport - indicative of our partnership with the glamorous Amanda Vogel of Snomad Racing, Project: ICE, and our 3' banner on her trailer, our dedication to the CopperDog 150, and our passion for the Yukon Quest. Mushers' relationship with their dogs is a thing of beauty and balance. This symbiotic relationship exists under the harshest of conditions, in the most remote of places.Heidi Sutter in particular has been helpful to our crew and a lover of our work. In fact - we love her work too. A recent Alaska sunset photo taken from the back of her sled was the inspiration for a fully wrapped tattoo on the photog's lower leg. School teacher, musher, and maker of warm and furry mittens and ruffs - we've partnered well. And as we prepare for sub zero conditions and windchill warnings for this weekend's race, we couldn't think of a better way to spend it than chasing dogs for 150 miles with a new KMA patch on our parka.Read more about Heidi and KMA here.
