Who?

Brockit Inc. is a full service photography company with a large digital studio and gallery in Hancock, MI. We pride ourselves on providing professional services to discerning clients and agencies looking for photography that captures natural beauty.

We are edgy, we are fast, we are personable, we are passionate, we are professional, and we love our clients. We are serious about what we do, and have an excellent crew that is skilled, flexible, energetic, proud – and we’ve been doing this coast-to-coast for over a decade.

History?

Brockit Inc. was started and named in New England in 2000 and named after a cat in a children’s book by Leslie W Wheeler. Our original logo was a silhouetted cat and transformed into the ‘red b‘ that marks our images. Brockit was incorporated in 2001 and moved from barn loft to business incubator to a fully-restored, 100 year old historic school house over the next number of years. Work has expanded from local ski races and small weddings with a staff of one, to international work with a witty and beautiful crew.

Staff?

Yup – we’ve got ‘em, and we need ‘em. Like the Beastie Boys, we have a core group with an eclectic, revolving collection of assistants and models. Plus, the photogs are spoiled and no longer know how to carry their own gear…

owner / photog - Adam (photo Mark Riutta)

Adam Johnson is unique in his photography as he combines a fine art background with a formal education in engineering and science. The result is distinctive, emotional photographs captured using high technology tools with an artistic eye.

Since forming Brockit Inc. in 2001 and launching brockit.com, his commercial, fine art, and portrait work has been visible on the covers and in the pages of magazines, travel guides, books, on websites, billboards, and microbrewery walls.

Self taught, a diverse client list keeps Adam and his Northern Michigan studio and staff busy from coast to coast, providing digital captures, free of manipulation, to the photography agencies and marketing companies he freelances for. The diversity has taught him to capture images regardless of environment or constraint.

Adam’s charismatic and professional personality provides comfort and confidence, allowing him to capture the natural feelings, expressions, and moments of his subjects. This is what motivates Adam as a photographer; being there for that single perfect moment and capturing the emotion in an artistic, timeless shot.

Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Adam and his wife, Robyn have been using the Keweenaw Peninsula as their home base since 1993. 8-year old daughter Kora Melia is a favorite photographic subject for the freelance photographer.

studio manager / captian / coordinator - Meghan

With Ninja-thumbs on her iPhone since 2007, Meghan McKilligan manages clients, assigns photographers to shoots, manages the studio space, pays bills, invoices clients, scouts for models, selects gallery images, maintains the blog, and posts to the Facebook page and Brockit’s own Twitter feed. (Phew..!) While she does most of her work behind the scenes, Meghan offers assistance on project and studio shoots, workshops, parties, and spends the remainder of her time drinking strong, black coffee in downtown Calumet and planning her own wedding.

assistant / support / shooter - Louisa

Hailing from the UK, Louisa is an insightful assistant and skilled photographer who supports both Adam and Sarah, and shoots second on A & B teams. When she’s not hauling gear and setting shots for Brockit, she serves as faculty at Michigan Tech, and is kept busy with dogs and an intimidating physical fitness routine. She’s by far the healthiest person on staff.

assistant / sherpa / intern / safety - Tania

Tania Levy has been serving as Brockit’s go-to assistant and is currently studying photography at Northern Michigan University. She admittedly didn’t know what she was getting into when she signed the waiver, but has been enjoying assisting on weddings, commercial, portrait, race and project work. This has put her on rooftops, on bridge decks, boats, and any number of spots to get a shot or support a photographer. She is conveniently not afraid of heights or fire – which has proved useful…

assistant / model - Meredith

Meredith may win the award for enduring the most extreme conditions / situations as a model and assistant. She’s as comfortable being photographed in her birthday suit by a hovering helicopter whilst standing on top of a cliff as she is leading furry alpacas through the 20 degree woods with bare legs. When she’s not being glam, she’s an excellent assistant with a bright laugh and spends her free time studying, playing rugby, and snowboarding.

assistant / model - Brandie

Brandie has a calming effect on photography students, children, and photographers themselves. Her comfort in front of the camera is most useful for workshops, and project shoots – both of which she eagerly signs up for.

makeup / asst. - Rhian HY

Rhian HY is a makeup artist and model, born and raised in England. When she moved to the US 4 years ago, to start her new and exciting life, being a makeup artist was always a goal. After many years in the industry as a model she acquired the necessary skills to become the professional artist she is today. Rhian has exceptional knowledge of makeup artistry and the cosmetics industry. Her commitment to achieving the client’s desired look is 100%. Rhian is available for location catalog shoots, weddings and any event where a flawless look is desired.

King – second shooter: video & photo

King from StandUP Media is unique in many ways – from music and bmx to lifestyle choices, he literally sees things differently. An obvious fit for Brockit, King covers Brockit’s HD video needs for weddings and commercial work. Highly in demand – toss a handful of energy drinks at him and stand back!
