We are edgy, we are fast, we are personable, we are passionate, we are professional, and we love our clients. We will never make you say ‘smile!’ and we will never sell you a ‘print package.’ We don’t use Photoshop to ‘enhance’ your photos – we shoot with the final deliverable in mind. We are serious about what we do, and have an excellent crew that is skilled, flexible, energetic, proud, and we’ve been doing this for a decade!

We partner with and provide professional imagery for individuals and businesses, locally and overseas and travel to their sites accordingly – in fact, most of our work is on-location.

Adam Johnson - owner & photographer

Adam Johnson is unique in his photography as he combines a fine art background with a formal education in engineering and science. The result is distinctive, emotional photographs captured using high technology tools with an artistic eye.

Since forming Brockit Inc. in 2001 and launching brockit.com, his commercial, fine art, and portrait work has been visible on the covers and in the pages of magazines, travel guides, books, on websites, billboards, and microbrewery walls.

Self taught, a diverse client list keeps Adam and his Northern Michigan studio and staff busy from coast to coast, providing digital captures, free of manipulation, to the photography agencies and marketing companies he freelances for. The diversity has taught him to capture images regardless of environment or constraint.

Adam’s charismatic and professional personality provides comfort and confidence, allowing him to capture the natural feelings, expressions, and moments of his subjects. This is what motivates Adam as a photographer; being there for that single perfect moment and capturing the emotion in an artistic, timeless shot.

Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Adam and his wife, Robyn have been using the Keweenaw Peninsula as their home base since 1993. 7-year old daughter Kora Melia is a favorite photographic subject for the freelance photographer.

studio manager & master organizer - captain Meghan!

With Ninja-thumbs on her smart-phone, Meghan manages clients, assigns photographers to shoots, manages the studio space, pays bills, invoices clients, scouts for models, selects gallery images, maintains the blog, and posts to the Facebook fan page and Brockit’s own Twitter feed. (Phew..!) While she does most of her work behind the scenes, Meghan offers assistance on project and studio shoots, and spends the remainder of her time drinking strong, black coffee in downtown Calumet.

Emily Allen aka 'kitty' - intern & second photographer

Emily is a photography major from Minnesota and is currently studying at Northern Michigan University. She has been shooting weddings and commercial work for Brockit Inc. for quite some time and has seen the inside of every laboratory, classroom, church, chapel, conference room, ballroom, radar base, and lighthouse in the peninsula – and in every weather condition you could imagine! When she isn’t behind the camera or setting lights, she, her fiancee Ben, and their dogs serve as clothing and models for commercial shoots.

assistant & sherpa Whitney Warstler

Whitney is Brockit’s primary assistant on full-day shoots. With her fashion sense and easy-going nature, she not only puts brides at ease, she adjusts clothing, hair, and make-up. In addition, Whitney can carry 35lbs of camera gear on her back whilst simultaneously swapping a 200mm lens with one hand.

Heaven Lee - assistant & model

Heaven has been a long-time Brockit model, primarily doing project and series work. She’s recently been added as an assistant, both roles she fills when she’s not making jewelry, music, or model trains. Heaven’s forte is modeling in extreme temperatures. Ask her about this and she’ll break out simultaneously in sweat and goosebumps.

King - second shooter: video & photo

King is unique in many ways – from music and bmx to lifestyle choices, he literally sees things differently. An obvious fit for Brockit, King has hit the ground running and covers Brockit’s HD video needs as well as quick-turnaround photo work for commercial projects. Toss a handful of energy drinks at him and stand back!

Jenny Hamel - intern & graphic design

Working from Southeast Michigan after graduating from Finlandia University, Jenny is responsible for the branding and marketing content for Brockit Inc. Jenny is single-handedly responsible for the Brockit ‘b’ logo (sorry fans of the Brockit cat) and the slew of inserts, flyers, and promotional material in physical form and as web content. Jenny started her internship with Brockit in the fall of 2008 when she discovered that occasional rides in a helicopter were part of the package.

Emma Newman - assistant

Emma hails from the Northwest and served as the primary assistant on large shoots, especially earning her keep while Adam was on crutches in the summer of 2008. Emma is back in the Northwest and her professionalism and rapport with clients make it a pleasure to have her assist on shoots in her neck of the woods.
